Catherine Scruggs, M.A., was born in Houston, Texas and raised in Pasadena, Texas. She received her Bachelor’s of Science degree (Cum Laude) from the University of Houston, in Houston, Texas, with a major in Psychology and a minor in Anthropology. She is an “Ivy League” graduate, receiving her Master’s of Arts degree in Developmental Psychology from Columbia University, in New York City, New York, and one year from obtaining a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at Alliant International University, in San Diego, California. Ms. Scruggs taught 17 college courses in Psychology, including General Psychology, Social Psychology, and Statistics for the Social Sciences. She taught full-time at San Jacinto Community College, in Houston, Texas until moving to San Diego, California for her doctoral studies. As a full-time doctoral student, she taught part-time at Mira Costa College, in Oceanside, California. During that time, Catherine also worked as an intern and a hired employee, counseling adults with various mental disorders. As a psychologist-in-training, she diagnosed clients and conducted individual and group psychotherapy under the supervision of licensed psychologists and psychiatrists. Catherine’s area of specialty is psychoeducation; that is, she concentrates her studies and employment on educating people about mental health and mental illness. She is very passionate about de-mystifying mental health issues and de-stigmatizing mental illness. Catherine currently lives in La Playas de Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico, where she privately tutors English-speaking Mexican citizens seeking to sharpen their English skills and presents various workshops focusing on Mexican citizens who want to improve their English skills, as well as workshops designed to assist Mexican citizens planning to attend college in the United States. Catherine also conducts educational seminars about mental health and mental illness for employees in corporations throughout the United States.
